There Is No Such Thing as Software Engineering

There is no such thing as "software engineering." The degree you get from college is Computer Science Engineering. Call the degree what it is. You study computation, systems, memory, networks, languages, and logic so you can understand fundamentally how these systems work. Afterwards, you become a Computer Science Engineer.

"Software engineering" is a craft, like hammering is a craft of carpentry. It is the applied act of turning ideas into syntax, systems, and shipped products. But the underlying discipline is Computer Science Engineering. That foundation gives you architecture, risk management, user experience, and the judgment required to build real systems, even when those decisions never appear in a textbook.

The world keeps using "software developer" and "software engineer" as if they were the real identity. They are not. If you build systems, write production code, and carry responsibility for how those systems behave, you are a Computer Science Engineer. Get it right. The discipline is Computer Science Engineering, and the people doing that work are Computer Science Engineers.
